On Saturday morning, 30th April, Penny Gilpin passed away in the hospice in Busselton after losing her long battle with cancer. The world has lost a lovely lady and Connolly, one of its hardest-working residents.
For those of you who did not know Penny, she was a long-time resident of Connolly and a very important member of Team Connolly initially becoming heavily involved in our fight to lower the freeway. She then became a Committee Member, Vice Chair and Chairperson of our Connolly Residents Association.
Penny worked very hard to help establish the community spirit, financial independence, and great success of the CRA to what it is today. Penny was a regular writer for our LINKS newsletter, she was a member of the Carnaby Reserve “Weeders Team”, the co-ordinator of the Connolly Green Fence Painting, involved with our monthly Bingo nights and helped to sell the Connolly calendars in the early days. From that legacy, the Connolly Residents Association has become the showpiece of the City of Joondalup and the team to follow by other Resident Committee’s, something we are all very proud of today.
A few years ago, Penny moved to Dunsborough for a change in lifestyle and to be with family.
We shall always remember her endearing laughter, her willingness to be involved in many community events and most of all her friendship that she made with many of our Connolly Residents. She will be remembered and missed in Connolly for many years to come.
