Connolly Residents’ Association Incorporated
When the state government of the day in March 1991 put the golf course up for sale after telling the residents of CONNOLLY that they were not going to sell it as it was our public open space. It was sold to Singaporeans Peter Kwee and Tuck Low for $22.8 million in October 1991. In 1993 the residents complained that the suburb was becoming an eyesore through lack of maintenance. This was when a Residents Association was formed.
The Connolly Residents Association was incorporated in 1994. The first meetings were held at the Connolly Primary School kindergarten classroom, very tight and small seats. Over the years the committees have varied from 4 to 10 members.
In March of 1995 the CRA asked the government for $5 million as compensation for the sale. In the end we received $250,000 for the community centre and $300,000 for verge improvement. Landcorp were the trustees of the fund and it was not until January 2008 that we managed to get it transferred to the City of Joondalup, so we had better control of the monies.
In 2003 the CRA membership was $2 a year. Our Committee in 2019 is made up of 10 local Connolly Residents , we have 324 financial members, 502 Facebook followers and our financial position is very strong. With your support paying your yearly membership of $5 Per year we continue to make improvements to our suburb and ensure your voice is heard when it comes to important matters.
