Ocean Reef Marina Project

Earlier this year the City welcomed the news that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recommended approval for the Ocean Reef Marina project, subject to conditions.
There is overwhelming support for this exciting and visionary project in our community, as well as across the northern corridor and outside the region.

Of 11,728 public responses to a community survey in 2009, 94% of respondents said they wanted the marina development to go ahead. 95.6% supported the concept plan at the time.

Many people have been waiting for this development for decades, and it is set to become a much sought-after tourist, business and residential location for the residents of Joondalup, the northern corridor of Perth and Western Australia as a whole.

The City remains committed to working with LandCorp, government agencies and all stakeholders to progress this project to a stage where ground can be broken which is late 2020.

THE CITY OF JOONDALUP COUNCIL OCTOBER ELECTION IS UNDERWAY with seven candidates nominated in North-Central Ward which includes Connolly. The candidates in the order they appear on the ballot paper are; Juliette Reay, Rob Johnson, Trona Young, Christina Costigan, Simon Walker, Brogan Murphy, and Nige Jones. Profiles of the candidates are on the City of Joondalup website under “Council Elections”. Ballot paper delivery to electors by post starts 30 September. Ballot papers must be returned by 6 pm on 19 October so additional time needs to be considered to ensure delivery by Australia Post. On election day the packages can be personally delivered to the Returning Officer in the Joondalup Civic Centre between 8 am and 6 pm. THE NEXT CONNOLLY RESIDENTS’ Association Monthly Meeting will be on 7 October 2019 at 7.30 pm in the Community Centre doors open at 7pm. At this meeting we have invited the seven candidates to do short presentations promoting themselves and there will be an opportunity for residents to ask questions. Historically, the returns have been poor with only about twenty five percent of eligible residents voting. All residents enrolled on the State Electoral Roll are automatically enrolled to vote. By representing residents in Local Government affairs, the role of the Councilors is important so residents should identify a candidate they believe can best perform the role and vote on the day. Connolly can make a difference, so the CRA encourages all eligible voters to cast their vote. DEVELOPMENT PLANS for the Connolly Shopping Centre are in progress with the City of Joondalup approving the concepts with minor amendments. The next stage is for the building plans to be approved. The principle format of the development is unchanged with the existing supermarket area being reconfigured to cater for a smaller shopping area, a childcare Centre and consulting rooms. The first activity is the repaving of the car park which should commence early October.. ENGAGEMENT WITH CITY OF JOONDALUP on the use of certain chemicals in public areas took place prior to the Council meeting on 17 September when statements were made by residents requesting Council to cease using glyphosate (Round up) because of a health risk to humans and animals. A petition was presented to Council and we will monitor developments on this matter.

Carnaby Reserve Oct – Nov 2019

Spring has sprung with so many colours to be seen as you stroll through the paths of the reserve. The welcome rains and the many hours spent weeding by our dedicated bush care volunteers and our contract weeder Andrew, have ensured a wonderous display of wildflowers and greenery.

From the sunny yellow of the Wattles and Hibbertia, to the pinks of the Swan River Myrtle and the bright white of the dainty Milkmaids it makes for an interesting and relaxing walk. It is pleasing to observe plentiful healthy new growth and numerous seedlings. Photos shown are a taster of the diversity that abounds in our relatively small but fertile bushland reserve and reflects why the colour Yellow is so predominant at this time of year. As the weather becomes warmer, remember to watch out for our Bobtails that are now active and may be seen on our local roads and sunning themselves on pathways in the reserve. This reminds us also to be aware and to be on the lookout for snakes that are known to reside in the Reserve.
