The City will soon get its first dedicated fenced dog exercise area at Elcar Park, Joondalup.
Joondalup Council gave the green light for the project to proceed at its April meeting with $150,000 listed in the City’s 2018-19 Budget for construction costs.
Fenced dog exercise areas are becoming more popular throughout the Perth metropolitan area; specific areas where dogs can socialise in a more controlled and safer environment.
Council’s decision followed extensive community feedback during a three-week consultation period, where community members were asked about their overall level of support
for a fenced dog exercise area at an existing park within Joondalup.
The City received 1,234 valid responses during the consultation period with most respondents indicating they either “supported” or “strongly supported” the proposal.
Elcar Park was favoured by respondents and found to be the most accessible, particularly for people who live in the Joondalup CBD where there are limited options for dog exercise.
